REVIEW: Sophie: Princess, Suffragette, Revolutionary (Anita Anand)
Author: Anita Anand
Premise: In 1876 Sophia Duleep Singh was born into Indian royalty and was a god-daughter of Queen Victoria. After her father was exiled to England, she was raised a genteel aristocratic. But when, in secret defiance of the British government, she travelled to India, she returned a revolutionary.
This book was really interesting. Sophia herself was an interesting character. Despite initially enjoying being a socialite, she turns into a suffragette and revolutionary to the point that the King was asking the government what could be done about her. But I also learnt about colonial India - how the British deposed her father, how they ruled and the effect on the people. Really really enjoyed this book!
