REVIEW: Where the Crawdads Sing (Delia Owens)

Book: Where the Crawdads Sing
Author: Delia Owens

Premise: For years, rumours of the “Marsh Girl” haunted Barkley Cove, a quiet fishing village. Kya Clark is barefoot and wild; unfit for polite society. So, when the popular Chase Andrews is found dead, locals immediately suspect her.

This story is told in dual timelines. We have a coming of age story of Kya, who lives in the marsh on her own. It shows her survival but also her love of nature. The other half of the book is a murder investigation and trial. This part gave me To Kill A Mockingbird vibes as we have the rich townspeople condemning Kya due to their prejudices.

I really enjoyed this book. The pacing was right and both timelines gripped you. I loved how nature was explored and described, both by Kya and the narration. I can't believe I let this sit off my shelf unread for so long!
