REVIEW: Powerless (Lauren Roberts)

Book: Powerless
Author: Lauren Roberts

Premise: The Elites have possessed powers for decades, while those born Ordinary are just that, banished from the kingdom of Ilya. No one knows this better than Paedyn Gray. When she unsuspectingly saves Prince Kai, she’s thrown into the Purging Trials. If the Trials don’t kill her, the prince will if he discovers what Paedyn really is . . . completely Ordinary.

This book is basically a Hunger Games premise but this time everyone has magical powers except the female lead. It felt like a fresh twist having the lead being the only "normal" one, but otherwise it's a well worn plot - not that it didn't entertain. Paedyn is a badass, which I liked, but she did spend a lot of time repeating the same worries about being discovered. We've also got the broody prince love interest who is the POV in the story. I found the story started slow, was a good pace for the first trial, then rushed through the rest.

An enjoyable story, but the plot as expected.
