REVIEW: Untamed Shore (Silvia Moreno-Garcia)

Book: Untamed Shore
Author: Silvia Moreno-Garcia

Premise: Viridiana spends her days under the harsh sun, with dreams of a future beyond this drab town. When a wealthy American writer arrives with his wife and brother-in-law, Viridiana jumps at the offer of a job as his assistant. But when one of them dies, it's not long before Viridiana has questions about the identities of her new acquaintances.

I love Silvia Moreno-Garcia and this book didn't disappoint. It's a noir set in Mexico in the late 1970s. Viridiana feels trapped in such a small town and gets involved with a group of wealthy Americans. You do get a good sense of how restricted her life is, always being observed by the prying eyes of locals. There's a coming of age element to the story for Viridiana and I loved seeing her go from innocent girl to calculating woman. Really easy to read and good amount of action towards the end.
