REVIEW: The Eighth Girl (Maxine Mei-Fung Chung)

Book: The Eighth Girl
Author: Maxine Mei-Fung Chung

Premise: One woman, many personas. Alexa Wú is a young woman whose life is manipulated and controlled by a series of alternate personalities. As her best friend gets drawn into London's cruel underbelly, Alexa follows on a daring rescue mission. Threatened and vulnerable, she will discover whether her multiple personalities are her greatest asset, or her biggest obstacle.

This was a really interesting read. Alexa has multiple personality disorder, and each personality is a character of their own. The story is told from both Alexa's point of view and her therapist's, meaning we get an internal and external perspective of her. With the plot descending into London's criminal underbelly, there are a lot of moments where you know a bad decision is going to be made. Plus the chaotic battling personalities, there's a claustrophic atmosphere from this book. There is a big twist towards the end which is super clever and completely changes the story.
