REVIEW: The Burning Chambers (Kate Mosse)

Book: The Burning Chambers
Author: Kate Mosse

Premise: Carcassonne 1562. Minou Joubert receives an anonymous letter: SHE KNOWS THAT YOU LIVE. But before Minou can decipher the mysterious message, a chance encounter with a young Huguenot convert, Piet Reydon, changes her destiny forever. For Piet has a dangerous mission of his own, and he will need Minou’s help if he is to get out of La Cité alive.

I was in the mood for a historical fiction and this hit the spot. There are two main protagonists, each with their own villain. I enjoyed how the stories overlapped, with plenty of mystery and intrigue maintained throughout. The historical backdrop revolves around the religious divide in France in the 16th century. I wasn't familiar with this period of history and the turmoil in France, so I found it even more interesting a read. Looking forward to book 2!
