REVIEW: Dragonflight (Anne McCaffrey)

Book: Dragonflight
Author: Anne McCaffrey

Premise: After years of hiding in plain sight, the time has come for Lessa to shed her disguise and take back her stolen birthright. But everything changes when she meets a Queen dragon. Dragons and their Riders once protected the planet from deadly Thread. Now brave Lessa must risk her life, and the life of her beloved dragon, to save her beautiful world.

I was gifted this book by a friend and I enjoyed it. It's got all you want from a fantasy novel: a girl hiding her powerful heritage, dragons, a moody male dragon rider, and the end of the world looming. The story came in three parts. First Lessa comes into her powers and joins the dragon riders, then we have the power struggle between the leaders, and finally the battle to save the day. I liked how in the battle, we started to move into the sci-fi realm with some of the ideas pursued. The only thing that annoyed me was how abruptly the story ended, without full resolution or closure - guess that's how they get you hooked and suddenly you're committed to a 20+ book series!
