REVIEW: Conversations with Friends (Sally Rooney)
Book: Conversations with Friends
Author: Sally Rooney
Premise: Frances is twenty-one years old, cool-headed and observant. At night she performs spoken word with her best friend Bobbi, where they befriend Melissa and her husband, Nick. But when Frances and Nick get unexpectedly closer, Frances is forced to honestly confront her own vulnerabilities for the first time.
I'm not sure what to make of this book. It's all about human relationships and how complicated they can become. The relationships in this book are unconventional and the story revolves around an affair. None of the characters are particularly likeable and it's only really Frances, the narrator, who has much depth. I actually found her relatable at times, her awkwardness and social anxiety. But there wasn't quite enough for me to be gripped unfortunately.
