REVIEW: The Snow Queen (Hans Christian Andersen)

Book: The Snow Queen
Author: Hans Christian Andersen

This was a collection of short stories so here are my thoughts on each one.

❄️THE SNOW QUEEN: young Gerda goes on a magical adventure to rescue her friend Kai from the Snow Queen. This was a really lovely fairytale and I loved the magic Gerda encountered on her journey.

❄️THE LITTLE MATCH GIRL: this is a very short yet sad story of a young girl freezing to death. As she lights the matches she's meant to sell, she sees scenes of happiness to guide her to the beyond.

❄️THE SNOWMAN: a freshly made snowman experiences life with a dog as a companion. He then falls for a stove that he can see through the window. Very short and sweet, if weird!

❄️THE FIR TREE: the life of a Christmas tree, from growing in the forest through to being used for firewood. There's an underlying theme of enjoying the moment and not getting distracted by what the future might hold.

❄️THE ICE MAIDEN: Young Rudy escaped the Ice Maiden as a baby but she's not forgotten the one that got away. This is a longer story set on the snowy Alps so full of wintery magic. A proper fairytale.
