REVIEW: The Whalebone Theatre (Joanna Quinn)

Book: The Whalebone Theatre
Author: Julia Quinn

Premise: This is the story of the three children who grow up in an old English manor by the sea, and the adventures they create for themselves while the grown-ups entertain endless party guests. But as the children grow to adulthood, war gives them roles they never expected to play.

This book follows three children over the 1920s-1940s. The first half is very Downton Abbey as the children play games and stage plays while the adults indulge in decadence. The second half takes place during WW2 and we see where each of the three children (now adults) get involved in the war different ways. I enjoyed seeing the characters grow and develop, along with their relationships with each other. The cast of side characters is also very rich, with some you can't help but get attached to. Really enjoyable story.
