REVIEW: Seek the Fair Land (Walter Macken)

Book: Seek the Fair Land
Author: Walter Macken

Premise: Ireland, 1649. As English soldiers leave a trail of barbarity and destruction, a few set out to seek a ‘fair land’. Among them is Dominick MacMahon, whose wife has been killed in the bloody massacre of Drogheda, and whose son and daughter accompany him, along with a wounded priest, Father Sebastian.

I picked up this book because I didn't know much about what happened in Ireland during the Cromwellian period. It was harrowing at times to see the awful things the English were doing. But then the second half gave a really beautiful tour of the Irish landscape. I really wanted to enjoy this book but it didn't quite hit the spot for me. The main character annoyed me a bit with his lashing out and some parts were a bit dull I found. The thing that annoyed me the most was the typographical errors in my edition - the publisher really needs to sort them out!
