REVIEW: We Were The Lucky Ones (Georgia Hunter)

Book: We Were the Lucky Ones
Author: Georgia Hunter

Premise: It is the spring of 1939 and three generations of the Kurc family are doing their best to live normal lives, even as the shadow of war grows closer. But soon the horrors overtaking Europe will become inescapable and the Kurcs will be flung to the far corners of the world, each desperately trying to navigate his or her own path to safety.

This book is based on the author's family's experiences during the war. We have 5 siblings, their parents and their partners, all trying to survive the war. I found it fascinating how different their experiences were - one spends the war in South America, one ends up in a gulag, others remained hiding in Poland. It was harrowing and heartbreaking at times. But I really enjoyed it and can't recommend it enough!
