REVIEW: The Midnight Train (Matt Haig)

Book: The Midnight Train
Author: Matt Haig

Premise: No one can change the past, but the Midnight Train gives you the chance to re-live key moments and to see what kind of person you really were. For Wilbur his best days were his honeymoon with the love of his life, before he gave it all away. He wishes he could go back and live differently. But to do so risks everything.

This book is about Wilbur. He's just died at an old age and the Midnight Train comes along to show him his life. We get to see his childhood, even the bits he can't remember, his regrets, the joyous moments and the hard ones. It questions whether a successful life on paper is a fulfilling one. What I love about Matt Haig is how he can focus on the simple things in life and make you go "yeah, that is nice, I like that". The chapters are quite short so it's a real page turner. While it's billed as a sequel to Midnight Library, it really isn't, although there's a nice link to it. Another hit for me!
