REVIEW: A Court of Wings and Ruin (Sarah J. Maas)
Book: A Court of Wings and Ruin
Author: Sarah J Maas
My rating: 3/5.
Premise: Feyre has left the Night Court and is playing a deadly game of deceit. In the Spring Court, Tamlin is making deals with the invading king threatening to bring Prythian to its knees, and Feyre is determined to uncover his plans. But to do so she must weave a web of lies, and one slip may spell doom not only for Feyre, but for her world as well. As mighty armies grapple for power, Feyre must decide who to trust amongst the dazzling and lethal High Lords - and hunt for allies in unexpected places.
I'm in two minds about this book. I loved a lot of it but it just wasn't quite as good as I was expecting. The first half was the best for me. I enjoyed Feyre scheming in the Spring Court, how some of the twists weren't quite unplanned. Then the plotting and politics, getting ready for war had me wondering how things would resolve. And then the war. Personally, I don't enjoy battle scenes, I find them a tad dull and predictable (the good guys are winning, oh no they're losing, all hope is lost, and then a big sacrifice helps the goodies win). The last 200 pages was just war and battles so I found I was dragging myself along a bit. Also there were a few things that felt unexpected and rushed at the end, things that happened "off camera" that I wanted to see and some loose ends that were mashed together. A bit less fighting, a bit more explaining would've been appreciated. Overall, a good end but not as good as the first two books!
