REVIEW: Throne of Glass (Sarah J Maas)
Author: Sarah J Maas
My rating: 4/5.
Premise: In the dark, filthy salt mines of Endovier, Celaena Sardothien is serving a life sentence. She is a trained assassin, the best of her kind, but she made a fatal mistake. She got caught. Young Captain Westfall offers her a deal: her freedom in return for one huge sacrifice. Celaena must represent the prince in a to-the-death tournament - fighting the most gifted thieves and assassins in the land. Live or die, Celaena will be free. Win or lose, she is about to discover her true destiny.
I really liked this book. Its about a girl competing in a series of deadly tasks and trouncing a load of men. If I were a critic I might say that the plot wasn't anything new and some bits were predictable. But I enjoyed it! Celaena is sassy and confident but is also human. I loved how she is a book person and stays up late reading. I like the contrast between the stealthy assassin side and the more "girly" side of her. The pacing is good and kept me turning those pages! Going into it, I wasn't sure I wanted to get too into a new series, but Sarah J Maas managed to dangle some titbits of information and mysteries that I now want answers to! A very fun read with a great female lead.
