REVIEW: Heir of Fire (Sarah J Maas)

Book: Heir of Fire
Author: Sarah J Maas
My rating: 3.5/5.

Premise: Consumed by guilt and rage, Celaena can't bring herself to spill blood for the King of Adarlan. The Immortal Queen will help her destroy the king - for a price. But as Celaena battles with her darkest memories and her heart breaks for a love that could not last, can she fulfil the bargain and head the almighty court of Terrasen? And who will stand with her?

This is the third book in the Throne of Glass series and you can tell that this is where the main plot starts taking off. In this book, the different plot lines emerge as the characters go off on their own. Dorian is feeling isolated with his magic, while Chaol starts to grow a backbone. Celaena is off learning her magic and facing her inner demons with the Fae warrior Rowan. This storyline reminded me a lot of ACOMAF. One thing I love about Sarah J Maas' books is that she allows her characters to fall apart. She doesn't put them through these big ordeals then make them continue as normal. She appreciates what such horrors would do to a person, which makes the characters more real and easier to get behind. We also meet Manon, a fierce witch and warrior. I like her strength and cunning, and I can't wait to see what comes next for her! At times, with all the different characters and plots, the story did drag. However, you do find yourself rooting for all the characters and wondering how they're going to save the day. I also love the world and the magic the SJM builds - she's a good world builder! Overall, I enjoyed reading this instalment and I've been left hungry for more!
